How Search Engines Rank Websites

Posted by Admin on June 28, 2009 under Marketing | Be the First to Comment

How does a search engine rank these pages? The question is one that many ask. Here is the method that is most commonly used by these search engine spiders as they crawl through sites.

1.You post a website. Over time, eventually, search engine spiders from each of the search engines will make it there (later we will mention a method of helping this process along).

2.Once your website is found by the search engines, they simply crawl over it. Imagine a large spider crawling over the page, reading what you have written there, and learning more about the site.

3.The search engines then grab the important details about the Web page. For example, what are the most important terms used on this Web page? What value does this page add to the consumer who is looking for it? It ranks this based on the types of content it finds, how valuable it is, and which terms it is best suited for.

4.This information gets stored in an index. That index is like a huge file cabinet that has each website as a folder. It stays there until someone calls on it by using a search term that corresponds to the website’s “important terms” or keywords.

5.When someone types in a search term that corresponds to your website’s important terms, the search engine goes to work quickly, locating all the files that may match the inquiry. Your file may be one of them if you have optimized your pages properly. It brings all of these files back to the reader in the form of a search engine results page, or SERP.

6.The order in which your website is placed on that search engine results page is dependent on how valuable the search engines think your website is. The more valuable it is, the more likely that you will rank higher in the results pages, and that is why people often say, “content is king.” Quality content is critical to ranking well in the SERP.

As you can see, this method of organizing pages is all done automatically, without your input or any other person’s actual input. The only way to rank well in the search engines is to know what causes them to value pages and to know how to make sure that the words you use on your website are valuable enough to the search engine to consider your website as being important.

Video lives on doing the grunt work…

Why you need to create and publish videos endlessly without fail - quick case study.

A while back I started experimenting with videos for marketing and leverage purposes. Fast forward almost three years later and you can see one of my early videos still on the front page of Google search results for the term golf fitness. (I just took this screenshot below minutes ago.) This video has been working hard and adding leads to my golf fitness niche site ever since.

It’s optimized with the proper keywords. It’s a solid video with practical tips. It links to my golf landing page. I offer quality info and special offers to the list of golf enthusiasts/subscribers. They buy or they click for more information on relative offers served up by Google Adsense. Everyone benefits and it all stems from the video that keeps on working - tirelessly.

How To Start A Bootcamp, How To Make It Profitable…

Posted by Admin on February 2, 2009 under Marketing | Read the First Comment

This is a *huge* topic among trainers. I get asked about this a lot. Through my membership site (Personal Trainer Toolbox) and from random trainers who visit my fitness sites.

  • If you’ve got current clients, you’ve got a head start - you can tap into your current client base.
  • If you’re not already training your clients with a mix of metabolic conditioning workouts and bodyweight training - give them a sample. (I do a lot of this type of training in my fitness bootcamps.)
  • Niche it down. Focus your camp on a certain segment. House moms, youth athletes, busy professionals… You can get even more targeted by focusing in on areas or neighborhoods.
  • Ask one of your “raving fans” if they’d like to start a bootcamp in their neighborhood. If “yes” you’re in a great position.
  • Start with the “grassroots” marketing. Word of mouth, flyers, and email to friends. Create a video to send around virally. Post it on YouTube. Make it a promo to your bootcamp and make it drive traffic to your bootcamp landing page or site.
  • Craigslist marketing… this is good stuff. I show how to get top ranking(s) in Goog for searched for keywords regarding YOUR bootcamp. You’ll get a steady stream of clients this way. I recently wrote about this inside PTT.
  • Create more buzz when you are running the camps! Bring a friend day works well. Get them to start talking about it with ALL their friends and co - workers. How? More video my friends, more video.
  • Create workout systems. Make it fun, but make it intense. I don’t do rah-rah easy bootcamps. Functional exercise performed at a high intensity and constantly varied.

Well, those are the basic steps. Now create this in 2-3 different locations and expand. Want more? Let’s talk about it at PersonalTrainerToolbox.com.
